Operations Manager – Construction - Specialist Contractor

Salary: £70,000–£80,000 + Package

Avocet Recruitment is working with an established and successful specialist construction business seeking to appoint an Operations Manager to lead its project delivery function.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager or Operations Manager looking to take greater responsibility for operational performance, people management and client relationships.

Importantly, candidates do not necessarily need to come from specialist background. We are equally interested in speaking with experienced professionals from regional or Tier 1/2 main contractors who have strong construction knowledge and the leadership qualities to manage a busy operational team.

The Role

Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will take responsibility for overseeing the successful delivery of approximately 20–30 projects annually, with typically 8–10 live projects at any one time.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing Project Managers, Graduate Project Managers and site delivery teams.

  • Overseeing project performance, programme, quality and commercial outcomes.

  • Supporting pre-construction activities and ensuring effective project handovers.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with main contractor clients.

  • Providing operational direction, resolving challenges and improving delivery processes.

  • Supporting the development of individuals and the wider operational structure.

About You

We are interested in candidates with experience in one of three areas:

  • Contracts or project management with an established regional main contractor.

  • Project or senior project management with a Tier 1/2 contractor, ideally involving steel-frame construction.

  • Project management or operational leadership within structural steelwork or a related specialist contracting business.

Above all, you will be a confident, commercially aware and decisive leader who enjoys developing people, solving problems and taking ownership of project delivery.
